Tarpon Taper Breakdown
The only thing better than spotting feeding Tarpon on the deck of a flat’s skiff is having a line that will consistently deliver flies into the feeding zone. Cortland designed their Tarpon Taper clear to be the most reliable Tarpon line on the market.
The Tarpon Taper is built with a short 2,1 meters or 7 ft. body for quickly transferring energy into your cast and delivering flies efficiently. The 9,5 meters or 31 ft. back taper helps carry line in the air when longer casts are necessary and allows for quick pickups when the fish are on the move. The short 1 meter or 3 ft. front taper effortlessly turns over any tarpon patterns and weighted flies.
This line features a monofilament core and signature liquid crystal coating for withstanding the hottest temperatures while still remaining slick, supple and fast shooting. This clear line remains virtually invisible to fish and gives the angler an edge when targeting pressured tarpon in shallow water.
Tarpon Taper Clear - Precision Fly Line for Every Cast
For anglers, few things compare to the thrill of spotting feeding tarpon from the deck of a skiff. The next best thing? Having a line in your arsenal that reliably delivers your fly right where it needs to be, every single time. That’s where the Tarpon Taper Clear shines. Designed with precision and purpose, this line is built to be your secret weapon for pursuing tarpon in their natural feeding zones—even in the toughest conditions. At the heart of the Tarpon Taper Clear is its intelligently engineered taper design. The short 7-foot body is specifically crafted to quickly and efficiently transfer energy into your cast, giving you the power and accuracy needed to hit your target. Need to make a longer cast? No problem. The 31-foot back taper keeps your line stable and easy to carry in the air, so you can really reach out when the situation calls for it. And when that school of tarpon suddenly shifts? The design allows for quick line pickup, making it easier to adjust to the action in an instant. The short, 3-foot front taper is another smart feature, effortlessly turning over everything from weighted flies to bulky tarpon patterns. With this line, you’ll feel like you have a tactical advantage in every situation.
Performance matters when you’re out on the water, but durability is equally important. The Tarpon Taper Clear features a monofilament core paired with Cortland’s premium liquid crystal coating. This combination is built for the blazing heat of the flats, staying slick, supple, and fast-shooting, even in extreme temperatures. And here’s the kicker: the clear design makes this line virtually invisible underwater. For anglers targeting pressured, wary tarpon in shallow water, this level of stealth can make all the difference.
This achievement is made possible by Cortland's century-long legacy of innovation in fly-fishing line technology. They’ve spent over 100 years perfecting lines that anglers trust, and that same dedication to precision has expanded beyond the water, with applications in fields as demanding as aerospace and medicine. Whether it’s crafting high-performance fishing lines or advanced cords and fibers, their commitment to quality is unmatched. Every one of their 450+ fly lines is made in the USA, and the Tarpon Taper Clear is no exception. It’s the culmination of decades of research, design, and testing, all rolled into one outstanding line.
Whether you’re chasing your first tarpon or you’re a seasoned angler with countless releases under your belt, the Tarpon Taper Clear is the partner you want on the deck with you.
